Lake Charles, Louisiana
LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana – The Lake Charles Historic City Hall Arts and Cultural Center was the city’s municipal center for more than 70 years after opening in 1911. In 2005, it came back to life as a popular (and free admission) location for art exhibitions on national tour and for shows from regional and local artists. A bonus for groups is a Saturday farmers’ market featuring Louisiana produce, jams, honey, baked goods and craft items. Food trucks and live music enhance the farmers’ market experience on the first Saturday of each month. The namesake of Lake Charles is Charles Sallier, an Italian who came to Southwest Louisiana in the early 1800s. (Photo by Tom Adkinson)
