All aboard for an unforgettable stay

Train stations meet the promise of glamour and adventure. What could be more romantic than a scenic train ride where the journey is just as important as the destination? There’s no escaping the allure of trains, and you can capture that nostalgia without ever leaving the depot. Here are 10 stunning train station hotels — eight of which are in the U.S. — that'll have you on track for a memorable getaway.

The Central Station Memphis, Memphis, Tennessee
Memphis Central Station has been a working train station for over a century; it's also home to one of the city’s most stylish hotels. The Central Station Memphis, which recently ranked as one of the 10 best pet-friendly hotels in the country, offers 123 rooms and suites, on-site dining, and a cozy listening lounge with a collection of 500 vinyl records highlighting Memphis' vibrant music scene.

Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel, Scranton, Pennsylvania
Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel Scranton is housed in a dazzling 1908 French Renaissance train station. Although the station closed to passengers in 1970, the hotel has preserved architectural details, like a Tiffany stained-glass ceiling, marble walls, and Grueby Faience tile murals. The hotel also offers on-site dining and a fitness center. Pets up to 70 pounds are welcome.

St. Louis Union Station Hotel, St. Louis, Missouri
St. Louis Union Station Hotel is one of the most unique train station hotels in the world. Some of the guest rooms peek into the tanks of the adjacent St. Louis Aquarium at Union Station, ranked among the 10 best aquariums in the nation. The lobby is a time capsule of stunning gold-leaf arches and stained-glass windows. Guests can enjoy a fitness center and seasonal outdoor swimming pool.

The Hotel Chalet, Chattanooga, Tennessee
Immortalized in the classic song, "Chattanooga Choo Choo," the city's Terminal Station opened in 1909 and serviced its last train in 1970. Today, the building is a unique destination with shops, bars, restaurants, entertainment venues, and a great lawn. Since 1974, the former train station is also home to The Hotel Chalet, which offers luxury accommodations in traditional hotel rooms or inside renovated train carriages.

Crowne Plaza Indianapolis Union Station, Indiana
You'll find Crowne Plaza Indianapolis Downtown Union Station in the former train shed of Indianapolis’ historic Union Station. The Art Deco building was constructed over the station’s railroad tracks in 1913 and was transformed into a hotel in the 1980s. In addition to standard and premium rooms, you can stay in one of 26 vintage Pullman train car suites. Hotel amenities include on-site restaurants, a fitness center, and a prime location for exploring Indianapolis.

The Crawford Hotel, Denver, Colorado
In operation since 1881, Denver Union Station remains a popular transportation hub today, connecting the airport to the Denver metro area via Amtrak and the city's light rail and bus systems. The Crawford Hotel offers rooms, lofts, and suites that harken to the golden age of train travel. In the hotel lobby, massive chandeliers were recreated to replicate the original fixtures, setting the tone for an elegant stay.

The Union Station Nashville Yards, Nashville, Tennessee
The Union Station Nashville Yards was once among the busiest train stations in the United States. The building, erected in 1900, remains a showstopper, boasting a 65-foot, barrel-vaulted ceiling with stained glass. No two rooms are exactly alike, providing a guest experience as distinctive as the hotel itself. Even better: The hotel is a short walk from the live music and attractions of Nashville's Lower Broadway.

Asher Adams Hotel, Salt Lake City, Utah
Gorgeous stained glass, period terrazzo floors, and restaurants designed after train cars leave no doubt that Salt Lake City's Asher Adams Hotel began life as a train station. The hotel opened in 2024, breathing new life into the historic Union Pacific Station, which was built in 1908-1909 and operated until 1986. The hotel’s amenities include restaurants, bars, a vinyl lounge, and a vintage photo booth and letter station. Although you can no longer catch a train there, getting around Salt Lake City is a breeze with TRAX, the city's light rail system, right across the street.

Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth, Montreal, Canada
One of Canada’s grandest hotels is situated atop Montreal's Central Station. Upon opening in 1958, Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth was regarded as a modern masterpiece. It was one of the first hotels in North America to offer amenities such as escalators and central air-conditioning. Today, the hotel offers luxurious accommodations, a spa, restaurants, bars, and easy access to Montreal’s Underground City.

The Tokyo Station Hotel, Tokyo, Japan
If you book a stay at The Tokyo Station Hotel, arrive hungry. There are 10 on-site restaurants, bars, and cafes featuring global cuisine and sushi. Lots of sushi. The hotel is connected to JR Tokyo Station Marunouchi and overlooks the Imperial Palace. Some of the hotel rooms also overlook the train station’s concourse. Also noteworthy is the hotel spa, featuring traditional onsen baths and a state-of-the-art fitness center.
