From One Volcano to Another
ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO - Known as the Albuquerque Volcanoes or the Three Sisters, these volcanoes at Petroglyph National Monument spewed lava into the surrounding area about 150,000 years ago. The huge volcanic boulders created from the cooled lava were used by American Indians and Spanish, Mexican and Indian settlers to make the 20,000+ petroglyphs that we see today in the national monument. Here, we have taken one of the several trails nearly to the top of one volcano – at least as close to the top as allowed – and are looking at one of the other volcanoes.
